About Madison Lee

My passion is bringing stories to life.

A lifelong love of fantasy has grown into a career as a professional illustrator specialising in traditional ink and watercolour, a fine artist, designer and writer. I’m influenced by the work of Shaun Tan, Victoria Fomina, and James Jean, as well as by traditional fairytale illustrations such as John Tenniel’s work in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. To say I put my heart and soul into my work would be an understatement.

I hold two fine art degrees from Curtin University, and wrote my thesis on the monsters of myths and fairytales. I love to create art you can “read” as you would a book, with intricate details painting a rich narrative - I often relate my work to a look and find.

My work has a strong visual style, and is influenced by the fantastic, infused with anime and nostalgia with a forward focus on the Gen Z market, and a connection with key trends, including the mass movement around Japanese culture. I also work to maintain my own cultural heritage in my work as a Spanish-Australian woman.
